Description: This mint attached pair of stamps, issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of War of 1812 events, features Lt. Col. Charles de Salaberry and Laura Secord. In May 1813, American soldiers captured Fort george. In occupied Queenston, they billeted themselves in the household of Laura Secord. Secord learned of a secret plan and traveled 17 difficult (avoiding roads) hours to warn British, Canadian and First Nation forces. The information she supplied was critical to the defeat of American forces at the Battle of Beaver Dams. In a separate event, forces under the command of Charles de Salaberry were heavily out-numbered near Allan's Corner, Quebec. His strategies gave the American's the impression that they were outnumbered, causing them to withdraw.
