The United States Postal Service paid tribute to classical composers and conductors with the release of eight different stamp designs on September 12, 1997. This item is a complete set in a mint block of eight. The four featured composers are Samuel Barber, Ferde Grofe, Charles Ives, and Louis Moreau Gottschalk. The featured conductors are Leopold Stokowski, Arthur Fiedler, George Szell, and Eugene Ormandy.

This issue is a member of the USPS "Legends of American Music" Series.

The actual size of this block of 8 stamps is 125 x 80 mm (without possibly attached sheet selvage).
