Princes of Monaco - PaintingsMonaco, 1967-1969
Between 1967 and 1969, Monaco issued three two-stamp sets that honored past princes of the country. Each stamp features a painting of the depicted prince. As is typical of the stamps from Monaco, the stamps are of very high quality with intricate engraving. Please click on the image or "Details" for additional information. $5.15 retail value (Scott 2007 Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue, Vol. 4).

Set #1 (issued Dec. 7, 1967): "Ranier I" (1267-1314), by Eugene Charpentier, and "Lucien Grimaldi" (1505-23), by Ambrogio di Predis.

Set #2 (issued Dec. 12, 1968): "Charles II" (1581-9) and Jeanne Grimaldi (1596-1620).

Set #3 (issued Nov. 25, 1969): "Honore II" (1604-1662) by Philippe de Champaigne, and "Louise-Hippolyte" (1697-1731) by Pierre Gobert.

Each stamp is inscribed with the names of the prince (& dates) and artist.
