Approaching the end of the last century, the United States issued a series of 15-stamp sheets, with each sheet commemorating a single decade within the century. These sheets contain the first stamp subjects chosen by postal patrons! The single sheet of 15 stamps offered here, "Bicentennial, Watergate, and Earth Day," commemorates these events of the 1970s: Earth Day, "All in the Family" television series, "Sesame Street" television series character Big Bird, disco music, Pittsburgh Steelers win four Super Bowls, U.S. celebrates 200th birthday, Secretariat wins triple crown, VCRs transform entertainment, Pioneer 10, Women's rights movement, 1970's fashion, smiley face buttons, jumbo jets, Monday Night Football, and medical imaging. A description of each event is provided on the backs of the stamps. The sheet selvage features ships gathered in New York Harbor under the Statue of Liberty to take part in the Bicentennial celebrations.
