The original painting is in the collection of the New York State Historical Association in Cooperstown, N.Y. The first day of issue for this mint stamp was November 3, 1969. United States 1970 Traditional Christmas issue Type 1 variety

Details 

This mint 1970 Christmas stamp was issued on November 5 and features "The Nativity" by Lorenzo Lotto (1480-1556). This painting is located in the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. This stamp is the Type 1 variety of this issue; the print is grainier than the Type 2 variety and there is "snowflaking" in the sky area of the image. Additionally, unlike the Type 2 variety, the Type 1 variety does not have gum break ridges. Scott Cat.# 1414
