With this complete mint booklet of 20 stamps, the United States Postal Service paid tribute to the early steam locomotives that drove the railroad revolution in America. Issued on Sept. 21, 1987, the enclosed stamps (four five-stamp booklet panes) depict the following locomotives: the Stourbridge Lion (1829), the Best Friend of Charleston (1830), the John Bull (1831), the Brother Jonathan (1832), and the Gowan and Marx (1839).
