All Clear vs. Black-Backed
Stamp mounts are used to attractively mount stamps on a
page without the use of stamp hinges. Thus, "mint,
never hinged" stamps stay never hinged and the stamps are
easily (especially with Hawid mounts) removed from the mounts
and returned to the mounts. All mounts have crystal
clear fronts that do not obstruct viewing of the stamps.
"All Clear" mounts also have clear backs.
"Black-Backed" mounts, as the name implies, have
black backs. Stamps look great against the black
background but some may say that these mounts interfere with
other design elements on an album page. Some collectors prefer all clear, some
prefer black-backed; a matter of aesthetic preference.
Hawid mounts are sealed at the bottom and open at
the top and sides (the larger hawid mounts are also sealed at
the top). Prinz mounts are the same as the
Showguard and Scott mount brands and are sealed at the top and
bottom and open at the sides. The backs are also slit in
the middle to aid in the insertion of stamps.
All mounts have water-activated adhesive on the backs; just
lightly moisten and adhere the mount to your album page.
