Karate - Mint Set of 3Ryukyu Islands, 1964-65

This complete set of three mint stamps was issued by the Ryukyu Islands during 1964 (two stamps with reddish and yellow backgrounds) and 1965 (stamp with the gray background) to commemorate karate, the Ryukyuan self-defense sport. At the time these stamps were issued (and following WWII), the Ryukyu Islands - a chain of 63 islands between Japan and Formosa- were a semi-autonomous government under United States administration.
