The 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) championship games will mark the 100th anniversary of the IIHF. The games will be held in Quebec City and Halifax, the first time these championship games will be held in Canada. On April 3, 2008, Canada issued a stamp (in a booklet format) which captures the energy, excitment and spirit of the competition and commemorates the first 100 years of the IIHF. This item is a first day of issue cover (envelope) produced by Canada Post- it includes the stamp, artwork, an April 3, 2008 Quebec postmark, and historical information (on the back) in both English and French.

Issued by the United States on Feb. 1, 1980, this attached block of four mint stamps commemorated the 13th winter Olympic Games, held in Lake Placid, N.Y., U.S.A., Feb. 12-24, 1980. The featured sports are speed skating, downhill skiing, the ski jump, and ice hockey. For U.S. hockey fans, these Games were special; the U.S. team, composed of amateurs and college players and led by coach Herb Brooks, defeated the heavily favored Soviet Union 4-3.
