This mint stamp, issued on December 10, 1951, commemorated the 175th anniversary of the Revolutionary War "Battle of Long Island," August 27, 1776. British and Hessian troops attacked the American fortifications at what is now Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The troops overpowered the Americans and captured their commander, Gen. John Sullivan. Gen.
