The U.S. Postal Service paid tribute to Lady Bird Johnson and "lady Bird's Bill," the Highway Beautification Act of 1965. The bio on the back of the sheet begins with, "Lady Bird Johnson awakened our country's conscience to the importance of protecting our native plants and maintaining a sustainable and beautiful environment." In addition to a self-adhesive stamp featuring Lady Bird (at bottom-right), this pane includes five self-adhesive postage stamps that are reasonable reproductions of similar stamps issued in 1966 (Scott Cat.# 1318) and 1969 (Scott Cat.# 1365-1368; our item# FL69). Although these stamps ended up having a face value of 34 cents, they were produced non-denominated in anticipation of a 2001 first class rate increase (the new rate was unknown at the time of production).
