Issued on July 16, 1969, this U.S. mint stamp commemorates the 200th anniversary of the European settlement of California. On July 16, 1769, a Spanish expedition led by Captain Gaspar de Portola entered what is now San Diego. The stamp depicts the Carmel Mission Belfry. Scott Cat.# 1373.

Featuring a portrait painting of Chief Joseph by Cyrenius Hall, this mint stamp was issued by the U.S. on November 4, 1968, to honor American Indians and as a dedication to the then new National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. (This Chief Joseph portrait hangs in the Gallery). Chief Joseph 1840-1904) was the leader of the Wallowa band of the Nez Perce, a Native American tribe indigenous to the Wallowa Valley in northeastern Oregon. Scott Cat.# 1364.
