The 50th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE Day) is commemorated by this mint sheet of eight stamps from Antigua (issued on July 20, 1995). The eight stamps feature eight defining events during the final days of WWII in Europe (the events are described below the stamp images); the large sheet selvage portrays the results of the Red Army's final assault on Berlin. This sheet has a retail value of $10.50 (Scott 2007 Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue, Vol. 1).

The 25th anniversary of the landing of French and American forces in Provence (Aug. 15, 1944) is commemorated by this attractively engraved mint stamp. Issued by France on Aug. 23, 1969, the stamp design depicts French troops landing in Provence.

This mint stamp was issued during 1945 (July 11) to honor the U.S. Marine Corps. The design, taken from the famous World War II photograph by Joe Rosenthal of the Associated Press , shows U.S. Marines raising the American Flag on Mount Suribachi on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. The stamp was printed in a color that was intended to match that of the marine uniform.

This mint self-adhesive stamp was issued on May 26, 2006, to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who defend the United States of America. Originally established by George Washington during the Revolutionary War, the Purple Heart was reinstated in 1932 as an award of appreciation to American military casualties. It is the world's oldest military decoration in present use. This stamp is a re-issue, with a new denomination and 2006 year date, of a Purple Heart stamp issued during 2003 (see item MY60).

To commemorate more than 100 years of service to America, the United States Postal Service honored veteran's organizations and their patriotic dedication with this issue. The design on this mint self-adhesive stamp features the American flag and the text "Honoring Veterans," and "Continuing to Serve."

Issued on Aug. 1, 1957, this mint United States airmail stamp, according to the Postal Service, commemorated the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force. With the "United States Air Force" being founded on Sept. 18, 1947, this anniversary is misleading. This stamp issue actually commemorates the 50th anniversary of the "root" of the U.S.A.F. lineage- the formation of the Aeronautical Division of the U.S. Signal Corps on Aug. 1, 1907. The stamp design features a B-52 Stratofortress and F-104 Starfighters.

The United States Postal Service honored all who served in the Korean War with this July 27, 2003 mint self-adhesive stamp. The design features a photograph of the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The issuance of this stamp coincided with the 50th anniversary of the armistice that ended the hostilities.
