This mint stamp was issued by the United States in 1944 (Oct. 31) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of motion pictures and to pay tribute to the contribution of the cinema industry to the war effort (my, have times changed). The design features World War II troops in the Pacific theatre watching a film projected onto a large sheet of cloth.

This sheet of 20 mint stamps was issued by the United States on July 19, 1997. As stated on the back of the sheet, "The aircraft chosen for this Classic Collection are representative of the first fifty years of powered flight in America. They are a chronicle of our aviation history from the days of wood-framed, fabric-covered contraptions to high-flying, supersonic vehicles." Army Brigadier General Benjamin O. Davis, Sr. is honored on the this mint self-adhesive stamp issued on January 28, 1997. Davis was the nation's first black Brigadier general. He began as a private, rising through the ranks during a 50-year Army career. He was both a promoter of, and symbol for, integration in America's military.
