This mint 1965 Winston Churchill Memorial stamp was issued to honor the World War II British leader who had died earlier in the year (1874-1965). The issue date was May 13, 1965.

Issued on June 10, 1957, this mint stamp commemorated the Jamestown Festival and the international naval review. Its theme was "Freedom of the Seas," and it was the largest representation of nations in an event of this type. The image depicts an aircraft carrier and Jamestown Festival emblem.

This mint stamp was issued on May 21, 1955, to honor the Reserves of all of the U.S. armed forces. The stamp design features Reservists from the Marines, Coast Guard, Army, Navy, and Air Force.

General George S. Patton, Jr. and the armored forces of the U.S. Army are honored on this mint stamp (issued Nov. 11, 1953). Patton was a hero of the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. The stamp design features Gen. Patton and Patton tanks in action.

This mint stamp was issued on Feb. 23, 1953, to honor the National Guard, the oldest military organization in the United States (in fact, it is older than the U.S. itself).

This mint stamp was issued on september 11, 1952, to honor the women in the U.S. armed services. The image depicts women in uniform from each of the four armed services: Marine Corps, Army, Navy, and Air Force. More than 40,000 women served in World War II.

This mint stamp, issued on December 10, 1951, commemorated the 175th anniversary of the "Battle of Long Island," August 27, 1776. British and Hessian troops attacked the American fortifications at what is now Prospect Park in Brooklyn. The troops overpowered the Americans and captured their comander, Gen. John Sullivan. Gen. Washington, with additional troops, arrived late in the day and skillfully withdrew the remaining American forces in a night retreat.

The 2008 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) championship games mark the 100th anniversary of the IIHF. The games are to be held in Quebec City and Halifax, the first time these championship games will be held in Canada. On April 3, 2008, Canada issued this booklet of ten postage stamps to commemorate the games held in Quebec; the stamps capture the energy, excitment and spirit of the competition and commemorate the first 100 years of the IIHF.
