The 2009 traditional Christmas stamp features "Madonna and Sleeping Child," a painting by Italian artist Giovanni Battista Salvi (1609-1685), more commonly known as Sassoferrato. This item is a complete unfolded booklet pane that includes twenty copies of this mint self-adhesive stamp. The painting depicted on the stamp shows Madonna cradling the sleeping Christ Child while the childlike faces of cherubs look down from the upper corners. This painting is currently in the Hearst Castle collection in California.
