Opening for business on July 4, 1828, the B & O was the first passenger railroad in the United States. Issued by the United States Postal Service on July 28, 1994, this mint, NEVER FOLDED booklet pane of five stamps features the following historic American locomotives: Hudson's General (1855, 1870), McQueen's Jupitor (1868), Eddy's No. 242 (1874), Ely's No. 10 (1881), and Buchanan's No. 999 (1893). The booklet pane term "never folded" refers to a pane that was not glued into a booklet & has never been folded (as would be a pane that was placed in a booklet); these panes were not available over post office counters or vending machines and, being in pristine condition and scarcer than folded panes, are valued at a premium.
