The United States Postal Service paid tribute to the renowned tennis player Arthur Ashe (1943-1993) with the issuance of this mint self-adhesive stamp on Aug. 27, 2005. The stamp features a portrait of Ashe holding a tennis racket. The stamp was designed by Carl T. Herrman.

This mint sheet of 20 self-adhesive stamps features four extreme sports events: skateboarding, BMX biking, snowboarding, and inline skating. Stamp designer Carl Herrmann chose photographs of these events based on their ability to convey action and excitment. The sheet includes five copies each of four different designs.

The stamp sheet was designed by McRay Magleby, an artist famous for his poster art. The USPS's purpose for issuing this sheet was to have an item it could sell at international cycling meets to promote the USPS Pro Cycling Team.

Issued by the United States Postal Service on May 24, 1984, this mint commemorative stamp pays tribute to the legendary American athlete, Jim Thorpe. The stamp depicts Thorpe on the sidelines in his football uniform with helmet in hand. At the 1912 Summer Olympics (Stockholm), Thorpe became the first athlete to win both the pentathlon and the decathlon. He excelled on the Football and Baseball fields as well.
