The Melbourne Cup, the centerpiece of the Australian racing calendar, has been raced annually at Flemington Racecourse since 1861. This mint mini-sheet of four stamps, issued by Australia on November 1, 2010, celebrates the 150th anniversary of this race. The stamps feature the Melbourne Cup trophy and the following three winners that span the history of the cup: Carbine (1890), Phar Lap (1930), and Saintly (1996).

Featuring the Great Britain Cycling team ("Team GB"), this attractive mint souvenir sheet with two mint stamps was issued by Isle of Man (British Commonwealth country) to commemorate cycling in the 29th Summer Olympic Games. Thes Games were hosted by Beijing, China, in 2008.

Featuring cross-country skiing, this mint stamp from Andorra (French administration) celebrates the 13th Winter Olympic Games, held in Lake Placid, New York (February 12-24, 1980). Issued on February 9, 1980.

The U.S. Postal Service commemorated the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games with the issuance of this mint self-adhesive stamp on January 22, 1010. The stamp, illustrated by Steve McCracken, features an airborne snowboarder. These Games were held Feb. 12-28, 2010, in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

The sport of cycling is saluted by this miniature stamp pane ("souvenir sheet") issued by the United States Postal Service on November 1, 1996. The stamp sheet was designed by McRay Magleby, an artist famous for his poster art. The USPS's purpose for issuing this sheet was to have an item it could sell at international cycling meets to promote the USPS Pro Cycling Team.

The 100th running of the Kentucky Derby is commemorated on this mint May 4, 1974 issue from the United States. The stamp design features "race horses at the turn."

Issued by the United States Postal Service on May 24, 1984, this mint commemorative stamp pays tribute to the legendary American athlete, Jim Thorpe. The stamp depicts Thorpe on the sidelines in his football uniform with helmet in hand. At the 1912 Summer Olympics (Stockholm), Thorpe became the first athlete to win both the pentathlon and the decathlon. He excelled on the Football and Baseball fields as well.
