Kiribati, a republic consisting of group of islands in the Pacific Ocean Northeast of Australia, issued this complete mint set of three stamps on February 20, 1980. The stamps commemorate the "National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA) Satellite Tracking" and feature a downrange station, an experimental satellite trajectory (map), and a rocket launch in Tanegashima, Japan.

The subject of this mint airmail stamp, issued by the Federated States of Micronesia on May 16, 1986, is Halley's Comet. Named after the English astronomer Edmond Halley, who discovered the periodicity of this comet in 1705 (the only comet visible to the naked eye that can be viewed twice in a lifetime), it last appeared in the inner Solar System in 1986 and will next appear in mid-2061.
