The designs on this complete set of six mint stamps, issued by Vatican City on December 9, 1977, feature the following bas-reliefs from a Christian sarcophagi (250-350 A.D.) found in Roman excavations: Creation of men and Women; Three Youthe in the Furnace; Adoration of the Kings; Raising of Lazarus; The Good Shepherd; and Chrismon, Cross, sleeping soldiers (Resurrection).

Pope John Paul I, the Pope from August 26 to September 28, 1978, is memorialized by this complete set of four mint stamps. Issued by Vatican City on December 11, 1978, the four stamps feature a portrait of the Pope, the Pope sitting on his throne, walking in the Vatican garden, and giving a blessing.

The German Democratic Republic (East Germany) paid tribute to Martin Luther (1483-1546) prior to the 500th anniversary of his birth with the release of this complete set of four stamps on November 23, 1982. Martin Luther was a German priest and professor of theology who initiated the Protestant Reformation. The cancelled stamps feature the seal of Eisleben (town of birth and death), portrait by Eisenach (1521), Wittenberg seal (1500), and portrait (after Cranach, 1528).

Issued by Italy on October 21, 1965, this mint set of three stamps commemorated the poet Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). The stamps feature the following illustrations from old manuscripts: Dante in Hell, Dante in Purgatory led by the Angel of Chastity, and Dante in Paradise interrogated by St. Peter on faith.

Iceland commemorated the 400th anniversary of Gudbrand's Bible, the first Icelandic Bible, with the issuance of this complete mint set of two stamps on November 29, 1984. The stamps feature text from the Bible and an illustration from the Bible.

Spain honored the 4th centenary of the death of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit Order, with the release of this complete set of three mint stamps on Oct. 12, 1955.
