Palau commemorated the 50th anniversary of the start of the Pacific Theatre of World War II (1941-1945) with the release of this mint sheet of 10 stamps on December 6, 1991. The stamps ten different events, beginning wih the Pearl Harbor attack and ending with the landing of U.S. troops on iwo Jima. Palau, a group of 100 islands in the west Pacific Ocean, is a former U.S. Trust Territory.

This mint self-adhesive stamp was issued on May 26, 2006, to honor the sacrifices of the men and women who defend the United States of America. Originally established by George Washington during the Revolutionary War, the Purple Heart was reinstated in 1932 as an award of appreciation to American military casualties. It is the world's oldest military decoration in present use. This stamp is a re-issue, with a new denomination and 2006 year date, of a Purple Heart stamp issued during 2003 (see item MY60).
