Hitchcock (1899-1980) directed more than 50 films and his TV series, "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," (1955-65) won two Emmy awards. Fans enjoyed spotting the cameo appearances he often made in his films. This stamp is unique among U.S. issues in that the silhouette in the upper left-hand corner is actually die cut into the face of the stamp.

A versatile actor on both stage and screen, Edward G. Robinson (1893-1973) appeared in more than 90 films and is perhaps best known for his portrayal of a gangster in "Little Caesar." The stamp features a portrait by Drew Struzan that is based on a black-and-white photograph taken by Elmer Fryer, probably in the 1930s. This mint stamp was issued by the U.S. postal Service on Oct. 24, 2000.

Everybody loves Lucy, including the U.S. Postal Service, who honored her with this self-adhesive stamp in 2001 (released on Aug. 6, 2001). Considered "The Queen of Comedy," Lucille Balls' witt, charm, and amazing ability for physical comedy endeared her to generations of fans.

Screen legend Cary Grant is honored on this mint self-adhesive stamp, issued by the U.S. Postal Service on Oct. 15, 2002. A very compelling and debonair actor, Grant appeared in over 70 films. In 1970, he was honored with a special Academy Award for his contribution to film.

This Sept. 9, 2004 mint self-adhesive stamp issue pays tribute to American film icon John Wayne. Known as "Duke," Wayne played many memorable characters but is perhaps best known for his starring roles in Westerns. The stamp features artist Drew Struzan's painting of the actor, based on a publicity still taken during the filming of "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance."
