To raise awareness of the need to adopt shelter pets, the United States Postal Service issued self-adhesive stamps with the theme, "Animal Rescue: Adopt a Shelter Pet". This block of ten mint stamps represents the complete set featuring five different cats and five different dogs. Issued on April 30, 2010. According to the USPS, the cats and dogs depicted on the stamps all had been homeless at one time; all but one had been adopted when they were photographed.<
