Issued between February and September of 1973, this set of four mint stamps commemorates the role of communications in spurring the American Revolution. The stamps feature pamphlets being printed on a press, posting of a broadside (message), a colonial post rider, and a drummer summoning minutmen.

This set of four mint stamps, issued by the United States on March 25, 1975, honors the following four heroes of the American Revolutionary War: Sybil Ludington ("youthful heroine"), Salem Poor ("gallant soldier"), Haym Solomon ("financial hero"), and Peter Francisco ("fighter extraordinary"). Inscriptions on the back of each stamp (in emerald green; under the gum) briefly tell the story of the individual featured on the fron of the stamp.
