Artistamps, Poster Stamps, and other "Cinderella" Stamps

Unlike the authentic postage stamps offered elsewhere on this site, the items listed on this page are not government-issued stamps meant for the payment of postage, but are collectible stamps created by artists, hobbyists, and/or advertisers.  Artistamps can be thought of as miniature reproductions of fine art created by talented artists to document and advertise their work, while poster stamps, as the term implies, can be thought of as miniature stamp-sized posters.  The majority of our currently listed items are productions of our talented friend W.C. "Bill" Porter and manufactured by the Olathe Poste (Olathe, Colorado), features a portrait of Buffalo Bill Cody and Chief Sitting Bull. The two were friends, both in the wilds of the untamed West and after Sitting Bull became "civilized." The portrait was taken while both were members of the famous "Wild West Show." Price: $1.50   Item ID: AT4 North American Coyote Local Post Stamp Sheet Artistamps Details  Issued by The Olathe Poste (a United States company with local post issuing authority), this sheet of 16 $5 stamps features North America's coyote (canis latrans) at a full gallop. The stamp image is from a photograph by W. C. "Bill" Porter; Porter is also the designer of the stamp. The decorative sheet selvage includes information on this interesting predator. No stamp featuring the coyote has ever been issued by the U.S. postal service (or, to our knowledge, any other country). We have a very limited supply of this sheet. Price: $0.85   Item ID: AT12b Mangus Colorado Block of 4 Artistamps Details  The Apache Chief Mangas Coloradas ("Mangus Colorado") is featured on this block of four attractive faux postage stamps. Mangas became Chief of the Mimbres Apaches in 1863 following the death of his father (also named Mangas) at the hands of Army troops at Pinos Altos, New Mexico. The stamp was designed by W.C. "Bill" Porter and manufactured by The Olathe Poste. Price: $1.50   Item ID: AT1 Carriso Gorge Poster Stamp Details  This Southern Pacific Railroad poster stamp depicts advertising for the Carriso Gorge scenic route. The Carriso (also known as Carrizo) Gorge is located in the high desert of eastern San Diego county, California. The San Diego and Arizona Railway laid track through the area; the Southern Pacific connected with this railway. The famous Goat Canyon trestle bridge is on the route (possibly the largest curved wooden trestle bridge in the U.S.). Price: $1.50
