Artistamps, Poster Stamps, and other "Cinderella" Stamps

Unlike the authentic postage stamps offered elsewhere on this site, the items listed on this page are not government-issued stamps meant for the payment of postage, but are collectible stamps created by artists, hobbyists, and/or advertisers.  Artistamps can thought of as miniature reproductions of fine art created by talented artists to document and advertise their work, while poster stamps, as the term implies, can be thought of as miniature stamp-sized posters.  Many of these stamps are co-listed in our topical stamp categories; where this is the case, we are careful to properly describe the items so that they are not confused with authentic government-issued postage stamps.  The majority of our currently listed items are productions of our talented friend W.C. The Carriso (also known as Carrizo) Gorge is located in the high desert of eastern San Diego county, California. The San Diego and Arizona Railway laid track through the area; the Southern Pacific connected with this railway. The famous Goat Canyon trestle bridge is on the route (possibly the largest curved wooden trestle bridge in the U.S.). Price: $1.50   Item ID: AT10 Geronimo Artistamp Details  The Apache Chief Geronimo (Goyathlay; "One who Yawns") terrorized New Mexico and Arizona for over 25 years, defending his people against the encroachment of Mexican and American soldiers, settlers and miners on their tribal lands. This artistamp was designed by W.C. "Bill" Porter and manufactured by the Olathe Poste (Olathe, Colorado). The Apache Chief Geronimo (Goyathlay; "One who Yawns") terrorized New Mexico and Arizona for over 25 years, defending his people against the encroachment of Mexican and American soldiers, settlers and miners on their tribal lands. Price: $5.50   Item ID: AT11 Wild Bill Hickok Artistamp Details  This faux postage stamp of Wild Bill Hickok (James Butler Hickok, 1837-1876) was designed by W.C. "Bill" Porter and printed and perforated by the Olathe Poste (Olathe, Colorado). Famous for his gunfighting and scouting skills, Wild Bill was also an abolitionist, lawman, professional gambler, and facilitator of the underground railroad. Price: $0.95   Item ID: AT11b Wild Bill Hickok Block of 4 Artistamps Details  This item is a block of four faux postage stamps of Wild Bill Hickok (James Butler Hickok, 1837-1876). The artistamp was designed by W.C. "Bill" Porter and printed and perforated by the Olathe Poste (Olathe, Colorado). Mangas became Chief of the Mimbres Apaches in 1863 following the death of his father (also named Mangas) at the hands of Army troops at Pinos Altos, New Mexico. The stamp was designed by W.C. "Bill" Porter and manufactured by The Olathe Poste.
