Four Chaplains Issue. United States, 1948.

This attractively engraved mint stamp was issued on May 28, 1948, to honor the four heroic United States Army chaplains who sacrificed themselves for their comrades when the S.S. Dorchester sank on February 3, 1943. Two ministers, a priest, and a rabbi, they gave up their own life vests so that others might live. Three of the four chaplains were Boy Scouts or Boy Scout Leaders.

Corregidor Issue United States, 1944.

This mint stamp, issued on September 27, 1944, honors the brave resistance of Army Gen. Jonathan M. Wainwright's American and Philippine troops under attack by the Japanese during World War II. After the fall of Bataan, the surviving troops withdrew to Corregidor in Manila Bay and withstood the invaders for almost a month before finally surrendering on May 6, 1942.
